Let the 2016 season begin!

SSRC rises to the Three Rivers challenge.

As the first serious event in the gig rowing calendar, this endurance race always blows away the winter cobwebs! It's around 6 miles long and passes through the Tamar, Tavy & Lynher rivers.

Tide is a big factor, with both men's' and women's crews starting with an ebb tide against them in the channel.

This year, the four SSRC crews that took part also had a pretty stiff wind and choppy water to contend with.

With over 80 gigs competing, the women's crews took to the water first, rowing in heats and very much against the clock. The ladies A crew in Winspit completed the 6 mile race in 1:03:46 and came 25th, Ladies B in Old Harry- 1:10:07, 50th.

The men (in their splendid new rowing jackets) performed very well with the A team completing in 00:52:41 to come 19th and the men's B in 00:54:06 to clinch 30th.

A great day was had by all and thanks must go to the captains, towers and coxwains for all their hard work.
