Our Regatta season has started .....

It's been a bit busy, well, very busy and updating our website has fallen by the wayside. We've now had our own Regatta and have attended Regattas at Weymouth and Langstone. The competition in the Jurassic league is hotting up as we battle our fellow clubs in all conditions; from wind, rough seas, sunshine and rain ...but the good news is that whatever the weather, there's always bacon sarnies and cake, lots of homemade cake ๐ŸŽ‚ to keep us rowing.

Weymouth Regatta took place on Saturday 27 May. A breezy day, clashes of oars and boats - we had crews in all categories apart from Juniors. It was a good start to our Regatta season, enjoying the beach location and hospitality from Weymouth.

Swanage Regatta took place on Saturday 3 June. The club members rolled into action and organised marquees, bbqs, refreshments, unloaded gigs from

trailers and reloaded at the end of the day...it was like a well oiled machine!

We had perfect sunshine for the day but at times challenging wind. In fact the only casualty of the day was the club marquee, irrecoverabley damaged by the strong breeze! All crews rowed well; Tristan (Weymouth) just pipped Winspit to 1st position. Some good wins for Langston, Portland and our own Ladies C team. And, another great result for SSRC was having 2 Junior teams compete; the youngest rowers being only 9 and 10 and many having never raced before !!

And so we finish with the latest Reggata at Langstone ...Saturday saw us compete in the Langstone Regatta and Sunday was the Hayling Island Row 2017. We held our club position in the Jurassic league; lots of racing, mixing of crews (especially with Poole) and clubs and happy rowers! We had even better news from Sunday when SSRC won the Men's Vets Hayling Island Row (and our ladies had a great row too). A busy weekend for the club!

So, that's a round up of the Regattas so far ...all being well, we're off to Bridport on Sunday 2 July for some more action!
