About Us
Swanage Sea Rowing Club is a thriving rowing club with over 120 members, five gigs, six state-of-the-art rowing machines and an iconic boathouse. We are a member of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association (CPGA) and an affiliate member of British Rowing.

As a club we are very clear in our charitable objectives - to promote the healthy pursuit of sea rowing to its community - and we welcome anyone wishing to participate.
We provide a range of activity from recreational rowing to racing and stage many events throughout the year to encourage people to get out on the water. We host an annual Regatta in summer and host the CPGA SuperVets (50+) championships.
As well as training in our respective crews, as a club we regularly get together to socialise, take part in friendly (but competitive!) racing and fundraise.

Junior Rowing (12+)
We have a vibrant junior section supported by committed coaches and volunteer helpers who are all DBS checked. Junior rowers have the chance to row on the water regularly, as well as train indoors in the boathouse. We compete as a mixed gender crew and enter into U14 and U16 age categories.
Many of our junior rowers who learned to row with SSRC have gone on to row for their university clubs. Many who have returned or remained in Swanage now help with organising fitness and training for others. We encourage parents to get involved too!
We are proud to have achieved Clubmark accreditation.
This is the only national cross-sports quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections, ensuring we operate to a set of consistent, accepted and minimum set of operating standards.

Competitive Mens Rowing
Our dedicated men's squad train throughout the year for a variety of competitive events. On-water sessions are held on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings, with selected crews training even more frequently. These sessions are complemented by indoor training that includes erging, strength training, and circuits.
Under the leadership of Men's Captain Mark, our crews have excelled in competitions including the Open Championships at Newquay the World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly, especially in the Supervets (50+) and Masters (60+) categories. Our coxswains and coaches provide support through the rowing development process.
We are always eager to welcome new members, particularly younger athletes as we look to grow our Under 25 and Under 40 sections. Interested? Join us!

Competitive Womens Rowing
Join our women's crew as we train year-round for competitive events, including the World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly and the Women's Championships at Newquay.
We hold on-water sessions on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, creating an inclusive environment for women of all ages to enhance their rowing skills. In addition to on-water training, we also focus on regular indoor workouts that include erging, strength training, and circuits. Led by Women's captain Lynne, our women's crews have achieved success in regattas across the South-West.
Our dedicated team are here to support your rowing development and teach you everything you need to know. We are always eager to welcome new members, particularly younger athletes as we look to grow our Under 25 and Under 40 sections. Interested? Join us!
Social Rowing
Join our vibrant social rowing crew, where we row every Saturday morning year-round and on Tuesdays during the summer. Our group welcomes all ages, genders, and backgrounds, as we enjoy the stunning scenery and reap the mental and physical health benefits of rowing.
Members also have access to our indoor facilities in the Boathouse and get together to unwind at local cafes after a session. Led by our enthusiastic Social Captain Simon, we also embark on adventure rows to explore breathtaking local sights like Dancing Ledge and Studland Bay!

We are a friendly group always open to new members. Interested? Join us!

Community Rowing
Welcome to our community engagement initiatives! We are proud to partner with The Swanage School, offering exciting after-school sessions on Mondays in Spring and Summer where students can try their hand at rowing on ergs and experience the thrill of out on the water, guided by our DBS checked coaches and coxswains.
We also actively support the Swanage Carnival, hosting an indoor erg competition and our ever-popular Carnival Row, where local teams of six (comprising at least four novices) train in early summer to compete for glory in a race during Carnival week.

Many of our crew, and friends and families, have close ties to the RNLI and we are always proud to support their efforts in anyway we can. We fundraise annually in Lifeboat week, taking part in the raft race and hosting a club competition in the bay, which we also invite our friends from local clubs to join.
We are always open to welcoming other community groups to join us for a fun experience on the water. Interested? Contact us to learn more!
